Jeff Barnes will present at the next Mouth of the Platte dinner on "The Forts of Omaha and Council Bluffs." Our metropolitan area has written a remarkable chapter in the history of forts on the Great Plains - six military posts, including one of the first and one of the last, were built within a 15-mile radius. One was built on a site recommended by William Clark. All of the sites are featured in his first book, "Forts of the Northern Plains," which will be available for purchase and signing.
